💡 Group assignment
Complete your lab’s safety training.
Test runout, alignment, fixturing, speeds, feeds, materials and toolpaths for your machine.
Document your work to the group work page and reflect on your individual page what you learned.
About this week
Briefly describe the goal of the assignment. What are you characterizing, testing, or exploring
Carl:
Tools and materials used
List all the machines, software and materials used in this assigment.
Shopbot PRS Alpha
Fusion 360
9mm Laser plywood
Process and methodology
When using the CNC we are following the SOP's that have been creatied by the Fablab
Safety:
The key aspect to opperating the CNC safley is paying attention with all your sences, with an emphasis on your ears!
Is the machine slowly getting louder or higher pitched? - The tool may be loose
Is the tools screeching? - The feed rate may be too low for the spindle speed
Is there a burning smell? STOP the machine, and deal with any hot chips
Machine Test:
For our machine test we will be looking at how being aggressive effects out cuts and exaggerate flaws such as run out, by increasing tool pressure.
Note: for all my roughing and finishing i rough the part in climb but i finish in conventional. I find this gives the best finish.
Note: Shopbot made a very good PokeYoke where the key for disengaging the spindle is conneted to the wrench. This makes it far less likely you will be removing a tool on a potentially active spindle.
